Make a Melt and Pour Soap

Make a Melt and Pour Soap

A Melt and Pour soap is one of the Soapmaking Processes.

Different from Cold process and hot process, in a melt and pour process the soap maker doesn't have to go through the saponification process.

Melt and pour soaps are pre-made solid soap bases that can be easily customised and transformed in a final product.

Another big difference is the fact that you don't have to go to the curing time, these soaps are ready to use as soon as they solidify.

How does it work?

Melt and pour soap is a great option for beginners. All you have to do is melt the premade base, customize it with your favourite colours and scents, and pour into a mold.

There are different type of pre-made bases, clear and white are the most recommended for beginners.

You can also find pre-made bases with additives such as shea butter, aloe vera, argan oil, goat milk, etc.

Things that you can add to your soap:

  • Oils/Butters,
  • Fragrance and essential oils (to make sure that you’re using skin-safe scents),
  • Colourants (clay powders, mica powders, colour blocks),
  • Exfoliants (poppy seeds, coffee grounds…),
  • Dry flowers.

You can be as creative as possible.

Your mould should be temperature resistant and flexible, to make it easy to unmould the soap. Silicone mould are great options.

If you’re involving children in the process, just make sure they are old enough to hold their containers, and an adult should always be around.
